1. What ResidualPlay is
ResidualPlay is a market-intelligence tool. It publishes statistical estimates about the commercial long tail of the Steam catalog: how much net revenue a game may still be earning, and how actively its developer appears to be managing it. It is built for product managers, business developers, publishers and catalog buyers.
2. Estimates, not facts
Every figure on this site is a statistical estimate derived exclusively from publicly available data (Steam review counts and velocity, public price history, public build metadata, public developer announcements). Estimates use industry-standard methods (such as review-to-sales multipliers) and carry a typical error range of ±30–50% per title.
Nothing on this site is, or claims to be, the actual sales data, revenue, or financial condition of any company. ResidualPlay has no access to any private or confidential data of any developer or publisher. Figures must not be treated as financial statements and must not be the sole basis for any investment, acquisition or business decision.
Labels such as "dormant", "inactive studio", "dormancy" or deal grades are technical metrics describing publicly observable activity (time since a public announcement, a build update, or a price change). They describe activity patterns of products, not the worth, intentions, conduct or circumstances of any company or person. An inactive signal can have many explanations that public data cannot capture.
3. For developers and rights holders
If a listing concerns a game you own and you believe our data is wrong, or you simply do not want your title listed, write to contact@residualplay.com from an address that lets us verify you control the game (for example, the developer contact listed on your Steam page). We will correct demonstrable errors, and we will exclude a title from the public radar at its verified owner's request.
4. Data sources and trademarks
Data is collected from public Steam endpoints and public price-history sources (IsThereAnyDeal). ResidualPlay is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation. Steam is a trademark of Valve Corporation. All game titles, artwork and trademarks belong to their respective owners; artwork is served from Steam's public CDN as provided by the platform.
5. Acceptable use
The site and its data are free to use. Reuse of our estimates is allowed with attribution (a link to the game's ResidualPlay page). Abusive scraping of the API is not allowed; rate limits apply. For machine access, use the documented endpoints in /llms.txt, including per-game Markdown files.
6. Intellectual property
All original content on this site (its design, code, texts, scoring methodology as expressed here, and the selection and arrangement of its data) is © 2026 ResidualPlay, all rights reserved. The ResidualPlay database of estimates and signals is additionally protected by the European Union sui generis database right (Directive 96/9/EC): systematic extraction or re-utilization of substantial parts of the database is prohibited. This does not affect the permitted uses described in section 5 (individual use and cited reuse of estimates), nor facts and public data themselves, which belong to no one.
7. No warranty, limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, ResidualPlay shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use of, or reliance on, the site or its estimates.
8. Changes
We may update these terms; the date above reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the site means acceptance of the current terms.
